Here are our tips:
- Use the checklist in the guidance to prepare.
- Read and follow the guidance whilst applying – this helps avoid queries.
- Start early, registration can’t be completed without obtaining documents from others – this can take up to 30 days from some organisations – and the documents are required for the application to be submitted.
- Most people need at least 2 hours to pull together information and complete their application.

Why Apply?
Booming a Registered Case Manager matters – Registration signals a willingness to be accountable and subject to independent oversight. A registrant must be fit to practise, meaning they possess the appropriate skills, knowledge, health, and character to practise safely and effectively and work in line with the Standards of Proficiency in Case Management.
It is important for the industry as a whole – More than a decade ago, case managers, BABICM, CMSUK, VRA and other stakeholders identified the need for regulatory mechanisms underpinned by standardised training and a clear professional pathway. The Register of Case Managers provides the foundation for achieving this vision. Over the coming months we will be talking further to organisations about how they can include registration within their recruitment, induction and due diligence processes as well as working with service user organisations to highlight the benefits of using a Registered Case Manager.
I don’t have the experience to register yet
In order to support those without sufficient experience to become a Registered Case Manager, IRCM will be launching a Pre-Registrant Pathway later this year. The pathway will be the first element of a more formal route into the profession, Find out more here.
