The Institute of Registered Case Managers has published a series of updated documents this week that affect both Registered Case Managers and those intending to apply to the Pre-Registrant Pathway. These updates reflect IRCM’s ongoing commitment to maintaining professional standards, responding to feedback from the profession and other stakeholders, and ensuring that its requirements continue to support safe, effective, and inclusive case management practice. A full list of the documents is provided below and key updates are highlighted in the version table included towards the end of each document.

The Standards of Proficiency in Case Management have been updated with new standards to strengthen expectations around Professional Supervision and Inclusivity, recognising the central role both play in supporting safe decision-making, professional development, and equitable practice. A number of smaller updates and clarifications have also been made to improve clarity and consistency across the standards.

IRCM has also introduced new policies on Safeguarding Training and Professional Supervision, which will come into effect from 1 July 2026. These new policies further strengthen public protection and support practitioners in maintaining safe, reflective, and accountable practice. The delayed implementation date has been set to allow Registered Case Managers and Pre-Registrants adequate time to understand the requirements and make appropriate arrangements. They build on existing safeguards and reflect IRCM’s wider commitment to continuous improvement and public confidence in the profession.

The Pre-Registrant Pathway, due to open to applications on 19 January 2026, represents a significant development in supporting individuals entering the profession. Publishing the relevant policies and guidance in advance enables prospective applicants to prepare fully for the pathway, and to raise any questions they wish ahead of applications opening.
